There’s something about the sound of a popping cork that instantly says celebration—and no sparkling wine captures that joy quite like Prosecco. Light, fruity, and refreshingly easy to love, Prosecco has become one of the most popular bubblies in the world. But how did this charming Italian wine rise to fame, and what makes it so unique?

Prosecco is made primarily from the Glera grape, which has been grown in northeastern Italy for centuries. The wine takes its name from the village of Prosecco, just outside Trieste, where these grapes were once cultivated. In fact, Prosecco’s history stretches all the way back to Roman times—Pliny the Elder even praised it in his writings!
What sets Prosecco apart from other sparkling wines, like Champagne, is its method of production. Instead of fermenting in the bottle, Prosecco undergoes its second fermentation in stainless steel tanks, a process known as the Charmat Method. This technique helps preserve the wine’s bright, youthful flavors and keeps things light, fruity, and oh-so-fresh. Think crisp green apple, juicy pear, and delicate white blossoms in every sip.
There are two main quality levels to keep an eye on: DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata), which covers a wide area of production, and the more refined DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita), which comes from a smaller, hillier region and often offers more complexity.

Prosecco is incredibly versatile. It shines as an aperitif, but it’s also a fabulous partner for light fare—fresh seafood, summer salads, mild cheeses, and anything you’d take to a sunny patio. And if you’re in the mood for a cocktail, Prosecco is the star of the ever-popular Aperol Spritz and the elegant Bellini, made with peach purée.
Whether you’re toasting a special occasion or just elevating a regular Tuesday, Prosecco is a glass full of sparkle, history, and Italian charm. Salute!

Truffle Butter Popcorn
Pop, Fizz, Yum!
Ready to take snack time to sparkling new heights? Say goodbye to basic chips and dip—Prosecco’s new best friend is Truffle Butter Popcorn! This combo is a flavor explosion: crisp, bubbly Prosecco meets rich, savory popcorn kissed with luxurious white truffle butter. It’s classy, sassy, and wildly delicious. I recommend Ruffino Prosecco. It is a wine kissed by the Italian sun, with hints of peach and golden apple flavors. Flavorful with popcorn!
Your New Go-To Sparkling Wine Snack
You’ll need:
- 1 bag microwave popcorn (or go old-school with stovetop)
- 2 oz white truffle butter (yes, we’re getting fancy!)
- 1 tbsp kosher salt (or regular, if that’s what you’ve got)
- ¼ tsp pepper (optional, for a little kick)
- ½ cup mixed nuts (optional, for extra crunch)
How to Make It:
- Pop the popcorn like a pro—microwave or stovetop, your call.
- While it’s popping, melt that decadent truffle butter on low heat.
- Toss the warm popcorn in a big bowl, drizzle the melted truffle butter over it, sprinkle with salt (and pepper if you’re feeling bold), and toss to coat.
- Add mixed nuts if you want to level up the texture and flavor game.
Stove Top Popcorn:
In a large, 6- or 7-quart heavy pot, add the 2 tablespoons of canola, vegetable or truffle oil. Turn heat to medium high. When the pot and oil is hot, add popcorn. Cook as directed.
Serve it warm, pour yourself a chilled glass of Prosecco, and let the fizzy, buttery magic begin.
